Behind The Scenes Of Making X-Ray Markers

Have you ever thought about what all goes into creating the perfect x-ray marker? Today, I'd like to share a little behind the scenes of what steps I take to make radiology markers absolutely perfect for awesome radiology technologists like you!

First off, I batch create all the plastic casings so that I do not have to make each one when orders come through.

I also batch all the x-ray marker designs that I offer so that, like the plastic casings, they are ready to go!

I do whatever I can to make sure that I am prepared to run a smooth operation. So let's talk about what happens when an order comes through.

Because I feel like my personal life runs best on a schedule, I have my business set up to do the same to allow for the most productivity. Most weeks, I pour my x-ray markers on Tuesdays and Fridays. Because I have a toddler at home, sometimes those days have to change.

Usually the day before a "pour day" I will take all the orders that have been received up to that point and start prepping them on my murphy crafting table that my amazing husband built for me. If you haven't seen it yet, you should pop over to my instagram and check it out. It's pretty legit. Anyways, let me stay focused here.

Prepping an order requires pulling the plastic casing color choices, the x-ray marker design and the lead initials and/or numbers that the you have selected. That all gets put together, then that radiology marker set is ready to go!

It's finally pour day! I mix up all the resin, carefully place that into the casing. Using a toothpick, I smooth out the resin, straighten the lead, remove any tiny air bubbles and use a lighter to finally pop all the remaining surface bubbles. At last it's time for the drying station. Resin takes about 24-48 hours to properly cure (harden) so that's why I ship my orders 2-3 days after a pour.

There's a lot of love that goes into making each radiology marker perfect.

As you can see it's a pretty well oiled machine at this point. However, my first year I was all over the place. I had no system in place. Now that I have a system it makes running small business a whole lot more enjoyable!

Stay Rad,
Stacey
